'Hanatsume’ machiya house: a traditional holiday house (vacation rental) located in the historical samurai residences of Nagamachi. This machiya is inspired by Kutani Yaki, a style of Japanese porcelain traditional to the Kanazawa region.

Step inside to discover a vibrant Kutani Yaki-style tile art piece, which decorates the stylish kitchen and dining area. Take in the calming atmosphere of the tea room-inspired living room, which can also be converted into a bedroom, offering a peaceful retreat with views of the garden. Enjoy your private traditional Japanese garden from the large sofa, or from the bathroom fitted with a traditional Japanese-style cauldron bathtub and rainfall shower.

Upstairs are a classic Japanese-style room and a Western bedroom with bold Kutani Yaki-inspired red walls. An additional toilet is also available on the 2F for your convenience. This renovated Kanazawa machiya house also includes modern facilities such as floor heating, WiFi, IH stovetop, washing machine, and more.

About This Machiya House

A former samurai district “Hanatsume” machiya’s wooden facade is modeled after the exterior architecture of samurai residences. Pass through the gate to find a Sago Palm, a plant native to Japan that can also be found at Kanazawa’s famous Kenrokuen Garden.

Traditional design and modern facilities Admire the collection of colourful Kutani Yaki-style tile artwork in the kitchen and dining area, which is complete with heated floors. It is a spacious room perfect for up to 6 guests.

Japanese and Western living space Relax in the classic Japanese room with heated ‘tatami’ floors, sliding ‘shoji’ doors, beautiful woodwork and more. There is also a spacious sofa from which you can view the garden.

‘Tsuboniwa’ garden An inner garden is a traditional feature of machiyas. This particular ‘tsuboniwa’ is decorated with various plants such as Japanese fern, moss and flowering species. Step outside onto the veranda to enjoy the garden up close.

'Goemon'-style Bathtub Experience this spacious round ‘goemon’ bathtub as you look out onto the garden. There is also a rainfall shower and custom MACHIYA amenities provided: shampoo, conditioner and body soap.

Western-style Bedroom Calming red inspired by the rich colours used in Kutani Yaki porcelain adorn the Western bedroom, while the dark woodwork plays up the delicate architecture of the Japanese room.

Is this a hotel in Kanazawa?: No, this is not a hotel in Kanazawa. Our machiya homes are self-catering, private Japanese-style holiday houses (vacation rentals), which are reserved exclusively for 1 group per day. (Guests will not be sharing the house with any other guests). As there are no staff on-site at the house, our traditional Japanese machiya homes are perfect for travelers interested in immersing themselves in local culture in Kanazawa!

If you require assistance during your stay, our friendly staff are available via email or telephone between 10AM~7PM. (Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day.)
Please note that as this is a self-catering holiday house, and not a hotel, housekeeping during your stay is available for guests who stay 4 night or more.
However, our staff are available for garbage pick-up, to provide additional towels during your stay, and more. We also encourage our guests to reuse bath towels to help us reduce the consumption of water.
