‘Kanata’ machiya house: a renovated, private traditional Japanese holiday house (vacation rental) located in Kanazawa city’s downtown area. While the surrounding neighborhood is lively with restaurants, cafes, and sightseeing spots, one step inside of this Japanese ‘machiya’ house, and you will be greeted with a complete sense of calmness.

This 117㎡ (1259 sq ft) space is not only more spacious than most hotel suites, a stay at 'Kanata' machiya house will provide you with the luxury & comfort of a home away from home. This machiya house features a luxurios hinoki wood bath, 1 Japanese room, and a large kitchen & dining space on the 1F. The 2F includes 2 additional bedrooms, a loft area with sofa seating, and a shower room on the 2F. If you'd like to experience a private sauna during your stay, please make a reservation via a "sauna-included" offer.

About This Machiya House

Spacious & Relaxing Dining Room The first floor features a sky-high ceiling, which breathes fresh air into this space formerly known as a ‘doma’. Originally, the ‘doma’ area in traditional Japanese houses had earthen floors and was the space connecting the indoors with the outdoors. Now, this space has been renovated with floor heating and a large dining room table for you to relax at with family & friends.

Fully-fitted Kitchen This open kitchen features a kitchen island and a dining table with comfortable seats so you can enjoy friendly conversations while cooking. The kitchen is fully equipped with an IH stovetop, cookware, cutlery, tableware, cooking utensils, microwave, toaster, rice cooker, wine cellar, and more. Pick up local delicacies or fresh produce from Omicho Market and prepare light meals during your stay.

You’ll even be able to enjoy this atmosphere from both 2F bedrooms when you slide open the shoji windows. No matter what room each of your guests are in, you’ll feel a sense of “togetherness,” as this atrium helps to connect each space.

Serene Western-style Bedroom The spacious 2F bedroom is fitted with a queen-sized bed for a comfortable night's sleep. When you want to read a book or get ready for the day, you can do so at the desk.

Bedding Set-up: The number of beddings prepared will match the number of guests you have made a reservation for, and not the maximum capacity.

To make a request for a specific bedding set-up, you must contact MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN at least 2 days before your check-in date. Up to 2 children (5-years-old and younger) staying under our “Children’s Policy” will be required to share a bedding with another guests.

Is this a hotel in Kanazawa?: No, this is not a hotel in Kanazawa. Our machiya homes are self-catering, private Japanese-style holiday houses (vacation rentals), which are reserved exclusively for 1 group per day. (Guests will not be sharing the house with any other guests). As there are no staff on-site at the house, our traditional Japanese machiya homes are perfect for travelers interested in immersing themselves in local culture in Kanazawa!

If you require assistance during your stay, our friendly staff are available via email or telephone between 10AM~7PM. (Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day.)
Please note that as this is a self-catering holiday house, and not a hotel, housekeeping during your stay is available for guests who stay 4 night or more.
However, our staff are available for garbage pick-up, to provide additional towels during your stay, and more. We also encourage our guests to reuse bath towels to help us reduce the consumption of water.
