'Itose' machiya house: a traditional Japanese holiday home (vacation rental) in a Kanazawa neighborhood once home to samurai residences. You'll be within walking distance of Kanazawa Station and Omicho Market, a food market with over 300 years of history. Itose features traditional craftsmanship rooted in the samurai culture of the Kaga Domain.

Slide open the entrance door to find jindai-sugi wood, an ancient fossilized wood, and artwork that reflect Kanazawa's artistic heritage dating back to the Edo period. The 122-square-meter machiya house has a spacious living room with a painted folding screen of mountain and water scenery, and a dining area and kitchen that look onto a tsuboniwa Japanese garden. Walk down the hallway, reminiscent of a traditional machiya passage, to reach a Western-style bedroom with a queen bed facing the garden and a bath area with a large hinoki cypress wood tub.

The second floor is arranged into two machiya sections, each accessible by its own staircase. The front section includes a Japanese-style tatami bedroom accented with Kutani-ware, traditional ceramics favored by samurai and tea practitioners, and a Western-style bedroom with a king bed and an additional shower room.

The back section has a Japanese-Western bedroom with tatami flooring and the option of sleeping on either traditional futon bedding or a queen bed. With 4 bedrooms in total, Itose can comfortably accommodate up to 11 guests.

Omicho Market & Kanazawa Station Omicho Market, known as "Kanazawa's kitchen," is just a short walk away and features fresh Hokuriku seafood, Kaga vegetables, and local specialties. The nearest bus stop provides easy access to major attractions including the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kenrokuen Garden, and the Nagamachi Samurai District.

Japanese Garden View A traditional 'tsuboniwa' Japanese garden viewed from the dining area and hallway. The garden brings natural light and seasonal beauty into the machiya house. The hallway design is reminiscent of a 'tooriniwa,' a traditional earthen passage that runs from the front to the back of Japanese townhouses.

Futon Bedding 'Itose' machiya house offers both Western-style beds and traditional Japanese futon bedding. Each room has a different bedding setup, so feel free to let us know your preference to ensure a comfortable stay. Experience sleeping on tatami flooring with futon or opt for a bed.

Additional Shower Room (2F) A second-floor shower room with a spacious changing area, washbasin, and toilet nearby. With bathing facilities on both floors, larger groups can comfortably prepare for the day or wind down in the evening.

2F Japanese-Western Bedroom A Japanese-Western bedroom located on the second floor in the 'okunoma' (back section) of the machiya house. This spacious room showcases both tatami flooring for futon bedding and a Western-style bed, along with a washbasin. Admire the original wood beams that have been part of this machiya house since it was first built.

Former Samurai Neighborhood Itose is located within walking distance of Kanazawa Station in a neighborhood with a rich history. This area was once lined with samurai residences, including estates of warriors who served the Maeda clan of the Kaga Domain.

Is this a hotel in Kanazawa?: No, this is not a hotel in Kanazawa. Our machiya homes are self-catering, private Japanese-style holiday houses (vacation rentals), which are reserved exclusively for 1 group per day. (Guests will not be sharing the house with any other guests). As there are no staff on-site at the house, our traditional Japanese machiya homes are perfect for travelers interested in immersing themselves in local culture in Kanazawa!

If you require assistance during your stay, our friendly staff are available via email or telephone between 10AM~7PM. (Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day.)
Please note that as this is a self-catering holiday house, and not a hotel, housekeeping during your stay is available for guests who stay 4 night or more.
However, our staff are available for garbage pick-up, to provide additional towels during your stay, and more. We also encourage our guests to reuse bath towels to help us reduce the consumption of water.
