'Kuraha' Machiya House: a traditional Japanese holiday home (vacation rental) located within walking distance of Kanazawa Station and the gentle flow of the Asano River. Reserved exclusively for one group per stay, this private machiya townhouse combines traditional Japanese architecture with a historic kura (storehouse) structure retained from the machiya's original design.

Slide open the entrance doors and step into a spacious traditional machiya house accommodating up to 13 guests across five bedrooms.The main living and dining area features a large dining table where everyone can gather together, alongside a comfortable sofa seating area to relax after a day of exploring Kanazawa.
One of the most distinctive features of this machiya house is its original kura (storehouse), which has been converted into the master bedroom. Characterized by stone walls finished with hexagonal tiles, exposed wooden beams, and high ceilings, this unique space features two queen beds.

The bathroom features a hinoki wood bathtub surrounded by stone tiles and minimalist design elements, creating a space for a relaxing soak and a spacious shower area.

In addition to the two bedrooms on the ground floor, three private bedrooms are located on the second floor. The house accommodates up to 13 guests with a combination of five Western-style beds and five traditional futon sets.

About This Machiya House

Over 125 year of History Dating back more than 125 years, this machiya house was originally a local shop selling 'sugegasa' (traditional sedge hats) and secondhand clothing. Its history can still be seen today in the historic 'kura' (storehouse) and antique chests preserved throughout the house.

Located Near Kanazawa Station Located within walking distance of Kanazawa Station, Kuraha Machiya House offers a convenient base for exploring the city. Many of Kanazawa's most popular attractions, including Kanazawa Castle Park, Kenroku-en Garden, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Higashi Chaya District, can be reached with ease by bus.

Spacious Machiya House A spacious living and dining area featuring a large dining table and comfortable sofa seating, creating a gathering place for meals and time together with family and friends. Overhead, exposed wooden beams cross beneath the double-height ceiling, highlighting the machiya's original architecture.

Historic 'Kura' Storehouse Once used by merchants to store valuable goods and household belongings, the property's original kura (storehouse) has been transformed into a spacious master bedroom. Retaining its historic character, the room features stone walls, exposed wooden beams, and two queen beds.

Classic Tatami Room A traditional Japanese-style bedroom featuring a large tokonoma alcove. Soft natural light filters in through the tsuboniwa courtyard garden, creating a peaceful space to relax during your stay.

Bathroom with a Hinoki Wood Bath Unwind in a spacious bathroom featuring a large hinoki wood bath and separate shower area. Two washbasins provide added convenience, making the space well suited for larger groups.

Modern Kitchen & Appliances A spacious kitchen equipped with tableware, cookware, a microwave oven with baking function, and a rice cooker. Ideal for preparing meals using local ingredients from nearby Omicho Market or enjoying takeout from around the city.

2F Western-style Bedroom This spacious bedroom features a king bed for a comfortable night's rest. Artwork incorporating Kanazawa gold leaf, one of the city's traditional crafts, adds a distinctive local touch to the room.

Washing Machine with Dryer Designed for both short and extended stays, the house features a washer with dryer function, steam iron, and other essentials to make your stay comfortable.

To make a request for a specific bedding set-up, you must contact MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN at least 2 days before your check-in date. Up to 2 children (5-years-old and younger) staying under our “Children’s Policy” will be required to share a bedding with another guests.

Is this a hotel in Kanazawa?: No, this is not a hotel in Kanazawa. Our machiya homes are self-catering, private Japanese-style holiday houses (vacation rentals), which are reserved exclusively for 1 group per day. (Guests will not be sharing the house with any other guests). As there are no staff on-site at the house, our traditional Japanese machiya homes are perfect for travelers interested in immersing themselves in local culture in Kanazawa!

If you require assistance during your stay, our friendly staff are available via email or telephone between 10AM~7PM. (Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day.)
Please note that as this is a self-catering holiday house, and not a hotel, housekeeping during your stay is available for guests who stay 4 night or more.
However, our staff are available for garbage pick-up, to provide additional towels during your stay, and more. We also encourage our guests to reuse bath towels to help us reduce the consumption of water.
